I Just Can’t Relax…

Learn more about floating and float therapy and it's relaxing effects

One common thing that people say as a reason for not wanting to try to float, is that they just can’t lay still, that they are not good at relaxing, or that they don’t have time for it. More common is the phrase, “I just can’t relax, my mind just doesn’t ever shut off.”

And that’s OK.

But have you tried being a sensory reduced environment?

Chances are, in our regular lives, it is nearly impossible to experience true sensory reduction. But the benefits of experiencing external sensory reduction are huge.

Enter the float tank.

The goal is to let the water hold you and let that sense of surrender be the catalyst that starts an effortless relaxation response.

And by effortless, I really mean effortless. The only thing you have to do is breathe and let your body be held by the water.

The sensory reduced environment and the bouyancy will do the rest, and whisk you off into a state of deep relaxation…without you even really trying. And the Epsom Salt will nourish your body, melting away tension…and leaving your skin silky smooth.

Which for many people, will be the first time they ever feel that way.

And if you try floating and you don’t feel that way at first…that’s OK. Sometimes it takes one or two more floats to get there.

Why?

Well, at first, some people might keep the light on, or they move around a lot, or they let their thoughts carry them down the train of overthinking and overanalyzing the experience…and while there is nothing incorrect about any of this, the body and mind can’t help but stay alert.

Everyone will experience a slightly different journey, but overall if you go in with an open mind and are willing to surrender the control of the expereince, the environment will take you and float you away for a blissful 90 minutes.

Instead of thinking about it as you needing to make the effort to relax or that you have to work at it…I encourage you to think of it as taking time to do nothing and let the rest unfold. Let the experience envelop you and let your body and brain surrender into a deep meditative state. The benefits are irrefutable. The science is there: deep sleep brain wave activty is necessary for wellbeing and has many benefits beyond feeling rested and relaxed.

P.S. And yes this means turn off your phone, remove your smart-watch and truly surrender into the experience…it is harder said than done, but you deserve it.
